Starboard float – starting to fair and thoughts on QuickFair

I didn’t expect to do any boat work today, but at the last minute this afternoon I found out I needed to have something for work done this weekend… the problem was that what I needed was still on the other side of the country. A quick call and some haggling got it shipped overnight for me to spend Saturday (and Sunday if things don’t go well) working on it. To make up for it, I cut out of work a few hours early, missed traffic, and headed down to try and get some work done on the boat.

No building this week – new product sample arrives

Between an out of town wedding this weekend (and one next weekend as well), and the INSANE change of weather, there will be no work done on the boat this weekend. I am instead relaxing indoors where it’s warm. Central Texas is known for strange weather patters, but snowing in April is not usually one of them! Felicia from Utility Composites called me last week to ask how the Raptor staples I purchased from them have been working out for me and to let me know about a new product I might be interested in.

Destructive testing

Took a few minutes to perform some destructive testing on the first bulkhead that was infused. Wanted to make sure the bond between the glass and foam was good and also nervous about a boat built of nothing but foam and fiberglass.. 🙂 First test I have no pictures of – it involved a strip of laminate about 7″ long and maybe 1″ wide at best. Braced it between two low shelves and put some weight on it with my foot.
